Packs of Hope Program

It is important for the youth in our North American culture to be aware of the less fortunate in other parts of the world, and more importantly, be shown that it is possible to make a radical impact on poverty.  One of the many successful initiatives of Wells of Hope is the Packs of Hope program

The students in elementary and high schools in Southern Ontario are asked at the beginning of the school year to search their home for a “gently” used backpack. The students are then asked to fill the backpack with items such as school supplies (notebooks, pens, pencil crayons, erasers, markers), hygiene products (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes), clothing, and possibly a toy or ball.  When the backpacks are collected from each participating school, the students are invited to participate in the preparation for shipping the backpacks to Guatemala with the Niagara Warehouse of Hope (www.warehouseofhope.com ).

Preparing the Backpacks for Shipping

These backpacks are distributed throughout communities in Guatemala to children who otherwise would have no learning materials to bring to school.  The distribution of the backpacks is recorded on video so that the students of Southern Ontario can share in the joy of the great contribution that they have made.
