Bridges update

This year’s Canadian construction crew, with new and returning volunteers, set out to build one new bridge and convert the existing wood/steel combination bridges to all-steel pedestrian bridges.

Los Tablones bridge spans 60 feet.   The depth of the river is 20 feet.   In the rainy season the water swells over 6 feet flooding the nearby road.   Without the bridge the area becomes almost impassible.

Pre-welded pieces were loaded to bring to the job site.  Luckily, the service truck could get near enough to use the crane to lower sections to the bridge location.

Hierba Buena community had two smaller bridges built to replace one that had been previously built out of wood.

The first Wells of Hope pedestrian bridge that was ever built was at the community of Los Izotes. Back then, it was an all-wood bridge. After a 8 years and once repaired, the bridge got a major upgrade turning it at par with all other ones made out of all-steel.

Last but not least, the until-now longest bridge built a few years ago at the community of Tierra Blanca had the wooden floor replaced by a steel one.
